Five-time champions India U-19 cricket team will look to level the scores with Pakistan U-19 cricket team when they clash in a high-voltage Super Six match of the ICC Men’s U-19 World Cup on Sunday.
India entered the competition unbeaten, beating the USA, Bangladesh and New Zealand in the group stage before annihilating hosts Zimbabwe by 204 runs in the Super Six opener. However, memories of a crushing 191-run defeat to Pakistan in the U-19 Asia Cup final in Dubai last December still linger for the Ayush Mhatre-led team.
Indian batting was anchored by Abhigyan Kundu, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Vihaan Malhotra who hit a smooth unbeaten century against Zimbabwe. Henil Patel led the charge with the ball, ably supported by Udhav Mohan, captain Mhatre and RS Ambrish.
Meanwhile, Pakistan is peaking at the right time. After recovering from their opening loss to England, they defeated New Zealand by eight wickets in the Super Sixes. Opener Sameer Minhas, the mastermind behind India’s Asia Cup final defeat, remains their biggest threat, alongside pacers Ali Raza and Abdul Subhan.
A fierce battle is at stake for pride, momentum and a spot in the knockout race.
