IND vs ENG 5th T20I: Why Vaibhav Sooryavanshi not playing series finale?
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (AP Photo) India have made two changes for the fifth and final T20I against England at the Rose Bowl in Southampton, with teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi omitted from the playing eleven.Sanju Samson replaced Sooryavanshi while all-rounder Suryansh Shedge came in for Washington Sundar as India looked to end the series on a positive note after already taking an elusive 3-0 lead.At the toss, captain Shreyas Iyer explained that the team management wanted to test different combinations rather than dwell on the outcome of the series.“I just want them to give 100 percent effort, regardless of the outcome. I just want them to have a solid mindset where they just go in and try to do their best, rather than mourning or being in a situation where you’re a little rushed out of the game, take your time, relax, breathe. So be in the moment and stop thinking about what happened or what’s going on,” he said. When asked about the changes, Iyer said, “We have two changes. Suryansh Shedge comes in for Washington and Sanju Samson comes in for Sooryavanshi. I feel this is the time we need to test what’s best for us as a team. So based on that, we’ve decided like this.”Sooryavanshi, who made his international debut on the tour, endured a tough outing in England after showing promise in Ireland. India decided to give Samson a chance in the series finale as they assessed their options ahead of the upcoming assignments. After winning the toss, India chose to bowl first but England’s batsmen took full advantage of the conditions.Jos Buttler smashed 131 off 64 balls while skipper Harry Brook remained unbeaten on 95 as the hosts piled up 257/3 in 20 overs. After the early dismissal of Phil Salt, the pair shared 233 runs for the second wicket. For India, Shivam Dube claimed two wickets while Prasidh Krishna claimed one.
