India and Pakistan will face each other in a thrilling World Cup Men’s T20 clash at the R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday, but it was India Women A who struck the first blow in Bangkok. In the Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars Group A contest at the Terdthai Cricket Ground, India A edged out Pakistan A by eight wickets to revive their campaign.

Coming into the match on the back of a seven-wicket loss to the UAE, India A were under pressure to respond. They did so in commanding fashion, producing a disciplined bowling effort followed by a dominant chase to get themselves back into contention.

Asked to bowl first, India A came in early. Saima Thakor removed Yusru Amir in the opening over, while Radha Yadav and Prema Rawat maintained the pressure through the middle overs. Pakistan A never found momentum and kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Shawaal Zulfiqar top scored with 23 while Gull Rukh added 21 but lack of substantial partnerships hurt them. Pakistan A were eventually bowled out for 93 in 18.5 overs with Yadav taking two for 11, Thakor two for 14 and Rawat two for 16.

VRINDA POWERS INDIA HOME

The chase started with a hiccup when Humaira Kazi was run out off the first ball but Dinesh Vrinda quickly turned the tide. The right-hander played with authority, smashing an unbeaten 55 off 29 deliveries and smashing 12 boundaries.

Anushka Sharma leveled the innings with 24 before Tejal Hasabnis provided the finishing touches in a brisk cameo. India A reached 97 for 2 in just 10.1 overs to seal a 59-ball victory.

The emphatic win not only boosted India A’s net run rate but also helped them recover from an earlier setback. Meanwhile, Pakistan A have slipped to third place in Group A and now find themselves in danger of an early exit as the battle for the knockout spots intensifies.
