Above the underground network of Metorail between Teynamplet and Saidapetus, a four -lane elevated corridor is constructed over three kilometers to ensure that the tunnels below are safe.
Even the soil around the tunnels will remain undisturbed to a certain depth. The upper layers of the soil, where short micro-piles appear, are strengthened by geo-textil, the officials said.
Steel structures are used for the construction of the overpass to keep the load above the tunnels minimal. “The grave is not allowed and isolated foundations (type of foundation) for the pier is carried out in the section where tunnels are tunnels (Teynample to Nandanam and a little behind them). For the pier a pile in a part without a tunnel (near Saidapelet),” the clerk said.
A little more than 30% of the 621 crore corridor to Anna Salai arterial, which carries nearly 2 lakh vehicles a day, has been completed so far. This is perhaps the first time that an increased corridor appears over the Metorail tunnels.
According to Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) officials, they have solid equipment (with automatic data collection) in two -sides and stations, including Teynamnet, Nandanam and Saidapette to follow any deflection and movement. In the event of a problem, a warning will be alerting to the control rooms and key staff.
The pressure on the tunnels was calculated using software models and it was found to be in the permissible design. The proposals were also checked by IIT experts, the officials said. The work is now gradually obtained, because workers and machinery have increased by three times, the motorway department officials said.
“Fifty percent of the foundations have been completed so far and we hope to complete them all before the monsoon so that work on the super structure can occupy during the rain,” the motorway official said.
