The federation of tax practitioners All India (AIFTP) called on the Central Direct Tax Council (CBDT) to extend the due date for income tax (ITRS) and a tax audit report for the 2025-26 evaluation year.
The President AIFTP Samir Jani said that CBDT chairman was submitted to an extension memorandum, and on Tuesday he communicated several calls facing taxpayers and experts such as floods, landslides, technical defects and compliance calls, PTI reported on Tuesday.
Proposed new terms
The body suggested the following new terms:
- NEAUDIT Cases: The ITR submission deadline should be extended from September 15 to October 15.
- Tax audit reports: Due date for reporting a tax audit report should be moved from September 30 to October 31.
- Cases of audit: The deadline for the administration of ITR in cases of audit should be extended from 31 October to 30 November.
Tax experts report natural disasters in several countries
The chairman of the AIFTP Narayan Jain emphasized that several states were seriously influenced by natural disasters such as floods and landslides that caused extensive internet, transport and energy supply, which was “almost impossible” for taxpayers and experts.
The group also quoted several problems with the income tax portal, including technical defects, delay in release of ITR forms and tools associated with inconsistencies in the form of 26AS, AIS and ths and compatibility, PTI reported.
The revised format of financial statements for entities prescribed by the Institute for Authorized Accounting in India (ICAI) requires further preparation and time of review.
Other causes of the delay are the upcoming festivals, such as Navratri, Durga Puja, Dussehra and Diwali, resulting in frequent travel, which further affects the timelines for taxpayers and professionals.
Legal steps
In addition to the former appeal, AIFTP also filed a written petition at the Delhi High Court.
This legal action is looking for instructions on CBDT to expand the dates of filing, which underlines the urgency of the matter, according to the report.
