Lok Sabha Om Birla speaker on Thursday (June 5, 2025) expressed concern about the insufficient representation of developing countries in multilateral institutions. He noticed that this imbalance prevents global capital and urged the Brics nations to correct it.
When Mr. Birla focused on the second work session of the BRICS Parliament forum, he said that the global crisis, such as the Covid-19 pandemia, has disproportionately influenced the global south and sought coordinated steps to solve these challenges.
“We are concerned that the representation of developing countries in international institutions remains insufficient. This imbalance prevents global capital and balanced development. The BRICS country must therefore jointly make a specific effort to strengthen the participation of the global South in these institutions,” said Birla. His speech was shared by the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
He said that health -related, food and energy security calls have intensified and will be difficult to achieve sustainable development goals (SDG) without specific and coordinated measures.
“Despite global challenges, BRICS nations have made inspirational progress in economic development. India believes that to further strengthen this progress, we must strengthen trade, investment and financial cooperation within the brake,” said Lok Sabha speaker.
Mr. Birla welcomed the recent expansion of the BRICS grouping and said it would be more inclusive and incident.
