The inactivity of the Indian Universe Research Organization (ISRA) in the re -establishment of the infamous case of ISRA Spy in 1994 in Pupen remains a mystery, said TP Sreenivasan, former ambassador of TP Sreenivasan.
It remains a secret why ISRO management could not publicly say that the space agency had no technology that its scientists were accused of sales of Pakistan, Sreenivasan said after publishing Chararam: Chara Caseinte Pinnamburram, a book by journalist John Mundakkayama.
“If they did, the case would immediately turn into ashes,” he said.
“Careful Examination”
The case of ISRO Spy was something that should never happen, D. Sasikumar, a former scientist ISRA, who was one of the accused in the case, but later liberated, he said. Mr. Sasikumar emphasized the need for careful examination of how and why the ISRA case occurred.
He also remembered his work on the development of missiles during the formative years of the Space Agency and the Dark Days, when he was described as espionage and “treated as a third rate”.
Former DGP Raman Srivastava, an IPS officer, who was involved in the controversy of espionage, received the first copy of the book by Mr. Sreenivasan.
Mr. Srivastava expressed his hope that the book would further contribute to getting rid of the accusation of the ISRA case. He said he had never made any public statements associated with the case in all these years, and had no intention to start immediately.
“Whatever I suffered, it stays with me, and whatever happened, it is now in complete sight,” he said.
“Never settled”
Former DGP Jacob Punnoose, who chaired, described the case of espionage of unjust and nonsensical. It was never found whether the crime was actually committed, he said. “In any case, there should be corpus delicti (the body of the crime). In this case, surprisingly, at no time it was determined what documents or secrets were stolen or smuggled,” he said. No ISRO official, who would not be responsible, formally filed a complaint to the stolen secrets, he said.
The present included Achuthsankar S. Nair, the Department of Computer Biology and Bioinformatics, Kerala University, JANCY James, former Vice -Rector of Central University of Keral and Mahatma Gandhi University.
