Devasting news came on the heels of her fourth triumph over the ruling Wimbledon’s champion Iga Swiatka-Kamžik, who should mean the peak of her career. Instead, Tauson decided to direct his grief to the focus and determination. Her grandfather was helpful in her rise, from training in the early years to her oldest supporter.
During Tuesday’s interview after the match, Tauson grew emotional when the crowd offered honest applause and acknowledged her performance and her strength.

“Yeah, still in shock. Unfortunately, my grandfather died two days ago. So I really wanted to win for him today,” Tauson said.
“No, I definitely didn’t do it. Yeah, I was told the day after I beat IGU yesterday. And yeah, I really wanted to come here and show my best tennis for him. Hopefully he looks,” Tauson added.
