“This year of that year” is compiled by war – August 5, 1971. Pictures show that the newspapers will cut off with the title “US weapons worth $ 2 billion sent to Pakistan”
In the middle of the ongoing tension with the United States over its tariffs on Indian goods and its business agreement with Pakistan, the Eastern Indian Army command shared a crop newspaper from 1971 on the social media on Tuesday (August 5, 2025), showing decades of US military support in Pakistan.
The article in cropping the newspaper dates back to August 5, 1971 and has the title: “US weapons worth $ 2 billion sent to Pakistan since 54”. Cropping was published on the description of X Eastern Command’s Handle exactly 54 years after it was first published, with the title: “This year this year accumulates war – 05. August 1971 #knowifacts”.

Delivery of weapons at “questioned prices”
The article quotes VC Shukla, Minister of Defense Production at that time that Rajya Sabh said that the estimated value of US shipments of weapons in Pakistan, was 2 billion GBP in 1954. He added that China and the US have supplied Pakistan weapons for discounted rates or “worthy price”.
This took place months before the launch of the war between India and Pakistan in December 1971, which ended with the independence of Bangladesh.
By the way, former Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina fled from Dhak in Nový Delhi last year, also on August 5 after being expelled in her country.
“Unjustified and unduly”
The position of Eastern command comes at a time when the US slapped an import from India 25% of the tariff rate and promised to add a “fine”, with US President Donald Trump accused India of financing Russia in its ongoing conflict with Ukraine. At the same time, Mr. Trump announced a business agreement with Pakistan, which indicated the development of massive oil reserves in this country and potential sale of oil to India.
On Monday (August 4, 2025), the Ministry of External Affairs (Mea) responded to Mr. Trump’s threat to “significantly increase” tariffs to Indian goods when buying Russian oil in Nový Dilli and condemned this step as “unfounded and disproportionate”.
“India began to import from Russia because traditional reserves were diverted to Europe after the outbreak. At that time, the United States actively supported such imports in India to strengthen the stability of global energy markets,” Mea said.
