NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said on Wednesday that his family’s immigration to the United States would not be impossible under the current visa policy of Trump’s administration.
US President Donald Trump in September raised H-1B Visa fee to $ 100,000. The H-1B visa is provided to foreign experts with specialized skills.
Huang, born on Tai -Wan, lived in Thailand and later emigrated to the United States at the age of nine years next to his brother. Their parents joined them after two years.
“I don’t think my family could afford $ 100,000, so for me, my family and for me that I was here … it wasn’t possible,” Huang said in an interview for the CNBC “Squawk Box” show.
“Immigration is the basis of an American dream,” Huang said, “this ideal that anyone can come to America and hard work and some talent can build a better future for himself,” he added.
Nvidia ceO He also mentioned that his parents moved to the US so that his family could “take opportunities” and experience “this incredible country”.
Nvidia to cover the fees for H-1B visa
Huang said NVIDIA will continue to cover H-1B visa fees for immigrants. Chipmaker currently releases 1,400 visas. The CEO also expressed hope of some “improvements” of Trump’s policies and believed that “there are still certain opportunities for Serendipity to happen”.
Although Trump’s immigration policy could have been defended by his own family, Huang said that Trump’s policies would still allow the US to “continue to attract the best talent in the world”.
Previously, Huang assured foreign workers that the chip manufacturer would sponsor H-1B visas despite the new fee of $ 1,000,000.
“As one of many immigrants on NVIDIA, I know that the opportunities we found in America have deeply shaped our lives,” Business Insider quoted the Huang statement that quoted an internal remark.
“And the miracle of NVIDIA – built of you and brilliant colleagues around the world – would not be possible without immigration,” he added.
In his message, Huang added that “legal immigration remains necessary to ensure that the US continues to lead in technology and ideas” and that “recent changes in Trump’s administration confirm this”.
