In the middle of the US tariff minimum, the Guwahati Tea Auction Center (GTAC) has seen a new maximum. GTAC, the largest auction center in the world for CTC (Crush, Tear and Curl) or Granular Tea, and the main center for global tea trade, recorded “impressive growth” in sale during August 2025.
Dinesh Bihani, Secretary of the Association of Buying Auctions Guwahati, said that 76.94 million kg of tea was sold during this period. The volume included 72.70 million kg of CTC and dust teas at an average price of 223.30 GBP per kg and 4.24 million kg of Orthodox or leaf tea at an average price of 279.08 per kg.
In 2024, 62.11 million kg of CTC and dust teas for 252 GBP per kg and 2.18 million kg of Orthodox teas were sold for 267.88 GBP per kg. In 2023, the corresponding data was 56.85 million kg at 205.37 GBP per kg and 1.23 million kg at 221.6 GBP per kg.
“Metoral analysis emphasizes a consistent upward trajectory in volumes. Volumes of CTC and dust in 2024 increased by 9.25% in 2023, followed by a further increase of 16.39% in 2025. Orthodox teas showed stronger momentum, in 2024 and doubled again.
However, price trends varied between the two categories. While CTC and dust recorded a steep increase of 22.71%in 2024, prices were repaired by 11.39%in 2025, although they remained above 2023. On the other hand, orthodox tea showed permanent prices.
“After reviewing the above data, it can be observed that the Assam crop in 2024 was a short 25.9 million kg by August, with a total production of 375.57 million kg compared to 401.47 million kg in 2024,” Bihani said.
GTAC officials said that the tea crop is expected to increase by 20-25%during the current calendar year.
“The deficiency in 2024, combined with the decision of the Tea Council to announce early production closure from November 30, led to higher auction prices last year, the market was fired until October 2024.

Meanwhile, the Association of Tea Association said the impact of a high American tariff on tea would not be felt immediately.
“During 2024-24, India exported 15.54 million kg to the US, which was only 1.33% of the total production of 1,315.77 million kg in the country. However, our goal is to export 300 million kg of tea, which is every market, including US industry.” Important, “Hindus.
