
The ongoing probe until the death of the famous Asam singer Zateen Garg opens a can of worms. There have been new details that financial transactions in value £1 CRORE was made of Garg’s security staff, according to a special investigation team (SIT) probing matters.
Garg died in mysterious circumstances in Singapore 19. September while swimming in the sea. Many people who belong to the Assam community living were there on a yacht with a singer. He was in the country to perform at the 4th edition of the Northeast India Festival, organized by Shyamcan Mahanta and his society.
Main Minister Assam Himanta Bisw Sarma revealed that the government had applied for the tax department of income tax and the Directorate for the right to explore the financial angle of the case.
“I hope the central agencies will accept it,” the Times of India quoted.
“Our whole concern is whether people living in Singapore will come or not. If they do not come, we will not be able to complete the question. They were the main people behind the yacht trip,” Sarma told reporters after meeting with Garg’s family on Saturday.
Development so far
Duteen manager Siddhartha Sharma, musician Shekharjototi Goswami, singer Amritra Mahant and organizer of the festival of northeast India Shyamcan Mahanta were arrested in connection with the death of the singer.
More than 60 companies against Mahanta, Sharma, and several others were filed throughout the state, after which Sarma ordered DGP to transfer all cases to CID and register a consolidated case for a thorough investigation.
SIT has already released a summons of several people associated with the singer, including eight out of 11 members of the Assam Association in Singapore who were with the singer in his last moments on the yacht to appear before 6 October, according to PTI.
The deadline expired on Monday, but none of the members of the association reported to SIT, although one person, Rupkamal Kalita, CID reported that it would appear on Tuesday.
