The intensification monsoon has worsened concerns about the outbreak of infectious diseases and also increased Covida transmission, especially in rain relief camps.
The rain may not have a direct effect on the transmission of Covid, but the infection may spread as a fire in closed environments, such as in embossed camps where insulation or physical distance between people will not work.
Thus, the health department has issued a special warning that all possible preventive measures will be taken in the auxiliary camps so that there are no chances of increased Covid transmission.
COVID cases have shown an increase in a state that is attributed to the increased Omicron Jn.1 and its inferior circulation, LF.7 and NB.1.8, which were responsible for reviving in Covid cases in Southeast Asian nations such as Singapore, Hong Kong and Thalland. There are now more than 700 active Covid cases in the state, with most cases found in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Ernacula and ALAPUZHA
Although these variants of viruses may not cause serious illness, its transmission potential remains high, causing a vulnerable population to endanger – older, young children, pregnant women and women with comorbidities.
Masking and hand hygiene are most important in preventing Covid and those in relief camps, and these measures are important to prevent Covid’s transfer in camps, the health department said.
Those in the camps with any respiratory symptoms, including nose, cough or breathless, should necessarily wear masks and prisoners from the camp that would newly develop symptoms, should inform the health authorities. Those who have found that they have a Covid will be provided with a protocol -based care.
The threat of infectious diseases, including dengue, chikungunya, leptospirosis and hepatitis A, also becomes acute during the rainy season, and that is something else that should be paid to relief camps.
The health department asked local medical teams to visit the auxiliary camps and to ensure that all sick people and to provide medication. Auxiliary workers and volunteers who are likely to be in contact with stagnant rainwater should opt for the prophylaxis of doxycycline to prevent leptospirosis.
The camp’s premises should not become mosquitoes and should be maintained clean. Only boiled water such as drinking water, medical departments should be provided in embossed camps.
