A wild elephant that wandered into private land at Malampuzha, not far from here, was found electrocuted on Sunday. Forest officials suspected that the elephant was electrocuted by an electric fence illegally erected by the landowner. An investigation is underway.
Elephant Lovers Sangham President Haridas Machingal said farmers living on the fringes of the forest should be allowed to set up electric fencing only after a joint investigation by the forest and power departments.
