Mary Kate Golding, a decorator whose credits included The Amazing Mrs. Maisel, Goosebumps and Mr & Mrs Smith, was fatally stabbed in her Queens home before her husband was found dead hours later in a suspected murder-suicide.

Golding, 34, was found in her apartment in Astoria, Queens, after police responded to a 911 call shortly after midnight on Tuesday, July 21. According to the New York Police Department, officers arrived at the address at approximately 12:24 a.m. following a report of an assault.
In a statement, the NYPD said: “On Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at approximately 12:24 a.m., police responded to a 911 call for an assault inside 18-64 41st Street, within the 114th Precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed a 34-year-old female victim and the EMS victim deceased from a stab wound.
Golding’s death was followed hours later by the discovery of her husband, Joseph Azzaretta, in Astoria Park. Police were called at approximately 6:39 a.m. after receiving a report of an unconscious person near Astoria Park South and Shore Boulevard.
The NYPD said: “On Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at approximately 06:39, police responded to a 911 call of an unconscious person near Astoria Park South and Shore Boulevard, within the 114th Precinct. Upon arrival, officers located an unidentified male, approximately 30 to 35 years old, unconscious in the park. The male died at the scene.”
Azzaretto was later identified as Golding’s husband. According to multiple media reports, a murder-suicide is suspected, although the investigation is still ongoing. The couple’s infant son was found in their home and was unharmed.
The death drew attention in the entertainment industry due to Golding’s work in a number of major television and film productions. She was known for her work as a set designer in The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, an acclaimed period comedy drama, as well as Goosebumps and Mr & Mrs Smith. She has also worked on productions including Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer, Full Circle, Extrapolations, Marry Me and Hawkeye.
Golding was scheduled to work on Deep Cuts, an upcoming film directed by Sean Durkin. Her death came as she continued to build a career in the art department and set design sectors of the film and television industry.
