Located between major towns like Tirupattur and Vaniyambadi in Tirupattur district, Jolarpet became an assembly constituency after bifurcating these towns in a delimitation exercise conducted in 2008.
Mostly labour-intensive, Jolarpet Assembly can be identified with a large number of small-scale industrial units, especially the manufacture of incense sticks, beedis and bricks. “Jolarpet is dominated by working-class people with many residents who are agricultural laborers and construction workers. Most of them are employed in low-skilled jobs,” said Jolarpet native M. Siva Sakthivel, secretary of the Tamil Nadu Agarbatti and Allied Products Manufacturers Association.
