In Bihar, more than 47 million people were affected by floods in 87 blocks of 15 districts

Water levels in several major rivers in Bihar are receding or stabilizing in the state, with the Disaster Management Department (DMD) continuously monitoring the situation and carrying out rescue and relief operations in 15 flood-affected areas.

According to a report by the disaster management department, water flows in the Gandak and Kosi rivers remained steady while the Sone recorded a declining trend.

According to the latest data available till 6 pm on Friday (September 11, 2026), Gandak’s discharge at Valmikinagar barrage was recorded at 86,000 cusecs with an increasing trend. The highest water flow was recorded on 14 July 2026 at 2,24,000 cusecs.

Kosi discharge at Birpur barrage was recorded at 1,41,295 cusecs with an increasing trend. The highest water flow so far this year was recorded on July 20, 2026 at 2,55,425 cusecs.

Similarly, the flow of river Sone in Indrapuri barrage was recorded at 67,737 cusecs with a decreasing trend. The highest water flow so far this year was recorded on September 2, 2026, which was 5,63,654 cusecs.

According to a report by the Ganga Sone flood control division issued at 6 am on Friday (September 11, 2026), the level of the river Ganga witnessed a declining trend at Digha Ghat, Gandhi Ghat, Maner, Hathidah (all in Patna) and Munger, while its level remained stable at Buxar. With the exception of Buxar, the Ganga is flowing above the danger level at several places in Bihar, which include Maner, Digha Ghat, Gandhi Ghat, Hathidah (in Patna) and Munger.

Other rivers including Gandak near Dumariaghat, Kosi near Baltar and Kursela, Burhi Gandak near Khagaria, Punpun near Sripalpur, Baghmati near Benibad and Ghaghara near Darauli and Gangpur Siswan are flowing above the danger mark.

The ministry said around 47.33 lakh people were affected by the floods in 87 blocks of 15 districts – Patna, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Buxar, Samastipur, Munger, Katihar, Lakhisarai, Khagaria, Purnea, Arwal and Madhepura.

At present, a total of 1221 community kitchens for flood affected people are running in various districts and more than 59.73 million people (number of plates) have been served so far. In addition, accommodation, food and medical facilities were provided for 12,260 flood victims in 15 relief camps.

According to the department, 3.13 lakh polythene sheets and 48,400 dry ration packets were distributed among the flood affected people. Approximately 10,823 cents of cattle feed was also distributed.

In addition, a total of 1,876 boats are in operation to facilitate the evacuation of residents and ensure easier transportation. Besides, 27 teams of SDRF and 10 teams of NDRF have been deployed in various districts to ensure quick and speedy relief and rescue operations.
