The Association of Government Medical Officers Keral (KGMOA) demanded that the Profylaxis (Prep) program be introduced before the exposure due to an increase in the death of rabies in the state.
Kgmoa said on Tuesday that once a person developed symptoms of rabies, it was 100% fatal. Of the 59,000 lives lost to rabies around the world, there were almost 20,000 in India. Of which were nearly 40% of children. In Kerala, although the number of rabies death fell to 20-25 per year, it was necessary to accept a sustainable prevention model, he said.
If a person who took the vaccine against preparation suffered an animal bites, only two strengthening shots would have to take. It would not be necessary to manage expensive and sometimes difficult to obtain immunoglobulin serum, Kgmoa said in his statement.
Between children
The Association recommended that the program of preparations to launch between children is the first. It is unlikely that children would communicate details of the bite or take care of the wounds properly. They were particularly vulnerable if the bite was on the face or hands, he said.
A working group should be created that includes experts to create a prepa management program to cover the entire population of the state.
The lost threat of dogs
After children, healthcare professionals, veterinary officials, forest officers, hygienists and others who were at high risk should be given vaccination against preparation. Effective steps should be taken to control terrible dog threats. In addition to preparing the Prep at the right time, vaccination of dogs and organizing continuous public awareness programs should be integrated into the current Anti-Rabies program.
Efforts should also be made to include preparations in the universal immunization program.
The vaccination program will create another Kerala model and help the state to achieve a global goal that eliminates all death deaths by 2030 by 2030, Kgmoa said.
