Immersion of Ganesha idols continues on September 26 in Hyderabad as long queues of trucks clog the Tank Bund stretch

The immersion of Ganesh idols at Hussain Sagar continued on Saturday (September 26, 2026) morning, with a large number of idols still waiting for immersion and a long queue of trucks stretching along the Tank Bund area.

The movement of Ganesha idols towards the Tank Bund was difficult through Friday night and several parts of Hyderabad witnessed traffic jams as the processions made their way towards the immersion sites. Heavy traffic jam was reported at Mozamjahi Market, Shalibanda, Afzalgunj, Lakdikapul, Himayatnagar and on routes leading to Tank Bund.

The heavy movement of trucks carrying the idols along with the large turnout of devotees and vehicles, especially families, who arrived in large numbers, slowed down traffic and contributed to delays in the immersion process.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said in a video message posted on X on Saturday (September 26, 2026) morning that traffic restrictions will continue throughout the day on the main procession routes in view of the ongoing immersion of the Ganesh idol.

Restrictions will remain in place for Tank Bund, Necklace Road, NTR Marg, PV Statue and areas around the Indira Gandhi Rotary, among other routes used by immersion processions, he said.

Mr Sajjanar appealed to motorists to avoid these routes unless there is an emergency and advised commuters to postpone their journeys or take alternative routes. He also urged people not to take to the congested roads unnecessarily as the processions continue.
