Today’s IMD Weather Forecast: Most parts of India will witness a combination of heavy rains, plummeting temperatures, gusty winds and dense fog in the coming days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its latest bulletin.
Remnants of Cyclone Ditwah will affect the weather system over the southern peninsula, especially Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Wednesday, bringing spells of rain to the states. The weather department further predicted cold waves and dense fog in many parts of India.
Effect of Cyclone Ditwah: Rainfall in South India
According to its latest bulletin issued on December 2 at 8:11 pm, the IMD said the remnants of Cyclone Ditwah will bring rainfall to Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Rayalseema and Andhra Pradesh.
In a post on X, the IMD said the remnants of Cyclone Ditwah have weakened into a well-marked low pressure area over the coast of North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and their vicinity today.
“It is very likely to continue to move in a slow southwesterly direction over north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts and further weaken into a low pressure area during the next 24 hours,” it said.
The close proximity of the remnants of Cyclone Ditwah to the southern coast has produced heavy rainfall in the area in recent days. According to the IMD, isolated parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will receive heavy rains on December 3.
Heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated places in south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalseema. Heavy rainfall is also likely in some parts of Kerala on Wednesday.
Wind Warning and Fisherman’s Warning
The IMD has predicted that gale-force winds of 35-45 kilometers per hour with gusts of up to 55 kmph are very likely to prevail over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal and along and off the north coast of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and South Andhra Pradesh on December 3.
A wind warning has also been issued for the coast off southern Tamil Nadu, the Gulf of Mannar, the Comorin region and the northern coast of Sri Lanka.
Very rough to rough seas are likely to prevail over the southwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal and along and off the north coast of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south coast of Andhra Pradesh on December 3.
North India is bracing for cold waves and cold weather
While the southern states are reeling under incessant rains, the situation in North India will be completely different. Parts of north, northwest and central India are bracing for a sharp drop in mercury.
The IMD has predicted that there will be no significant change in the minimum temperature over north India in the next 24 hours, followed by a sharp drop of 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next four days.
Cold wave conditions are very likely over isolated parts of Punjab and northern parts of Maharashtra between December 3 and 5. Rajasthan is also likely to experience cold wave conditions between December 5 and 7.
Over the next three days, Maharashtra will see a drop in temperature of 2-3 degrees Celsius, while Northeast India will see similar conditions after three days.
