Andhra Pradesh may experience below normal to normal rainfall in July with most parts of the state likely to see below normal rainfall.

According to the rainfall outlook released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday, June 30, isolated areas in Rayalaseema and along the coastal belt may experience normal rainfall. In other parts of the state, however, the chance of precipitation is below normal.

Like most of the country, AP may see above-normal maximum and minimum temperatures this month, though weather experts are yet to determine the degree of variation.

“We can expect some days to be warmer than normal and other days to be cooler than normal. However, temperatures will not remain consistently high. Discussions have now shifted from the topic of temperatures to rain activity,” said S. Karunasagar, Senior Scientist, IMD, Amaravati. Experts are now focusing on rainfall activity that is influenced by El Nino conditions, stronger in August and September.

In the month of June, the state received around normal rainfall as predicted by weather experts earlier. According to the IMD rainfall status, Alluri Sitharama Raju district reported heavy surplus while Parvathipuram Manyam, Srikakulam, Annamayya and West Godavari reported deficient rainfall between June 1 and 30. Other districts reported either normal or excess rainfall during the period.

It remained a dry day on Tuesday, except for Visakhapatnam district which received light showers. The state may see thunderstorm activity and light showers till July 3. IMD has issued an isolated heavy rainfall warning for coastal AP from July 4 onwards.
