IMD issues red alert for coastal Karnataka on July 2 and 3

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert (extremely heavy rainfall above 204.5 mm) for coastal Karnataka on 2 July and 3 July. The warning is in effect until 8:30 a.m. on July 3.

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Center (KSNDMC) said coastal Karnataka recorded 53 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on July 1 against the normal rainfall of 41 mm for the same period.

Dakshina Kannada recorded 67.3 mm rainfall (against 44.1 mm normal rainfall), Udupi 75.5 mm rainfall (49.7 mm) and Uttara Kannada 39.2 mm rainfall (36.8 mm) during the period.

Mulky in Dakshina Kannada recorded a maximum of 199.5 mm of rainfall, Hejamady in Udupi district received a maximum of 180.5 mm and Salkod in Uttara Kannada reported a maximum of 129 mm of rainfall during the period.

Pandeshwar fire station in Mangaluru recorded 140 mm of rainfall.
