I’m not that ugly: Spain boss Luis de la Fuente says it’s tattoo time for Cucurella
Marc Cucurella made the vow ahead of the FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and Spain on Sunday 19 July. The Spanish defender is known to have made such promises after dyeing his hair red after La Roja won Euro 2024. But this time he went one step further.
Cucurella has boldly claimed that if Spain win the World Cup final, he will get manager Luis de La Fuente tattooed on his body. The Spanish defender wanted to get it to thank his boss for the work he has done with the team and even revealed where he plans to get it.
“I’m thinking about getting a tattoo if we win the World Cup. It will be the face of Luis de la Fuente for everything he’s done for us. It would be something really amazing.”
Now that the match is over and Spain have their second World Cup title, De La Fuente is not ready to let Cucurella go.
After the win, De la Fuente said the defender made a mistake in making that promise. The 65-year-old joked that he wasn’t that ugly and would have to keep his word.
“I’m too old for tattoos, but my players are men of their word and I know they’ll keep their word,” De la Fuente told a news conference, according to Reuters. “They made a mistake and they’re going to stick with it. I’m not that ugly.”

De La Fuente came and instead of taking Spain from tiki-taka, he helped them develop a philosophy and improve it. The Spanish tactician said he was proud of his players for staying true to their mantra and leading by example as a team and family.
“I am so proud of this generation of footballers who have grown up with this philosophy, stayed true to it, refined it and led by example as a team and as a family – they are outstanding world-class footballers with exceptional talent,” De la Fuente said.
“I’m very moved. When I look back and think about them, we’ve won everything, absolutely everything, with this generation of players.”
De La Fuente won his third major title with Spain after winning in New York on Sunday.
