IIT Madras and the Finnish Meteorological Institute have joined hands to establish a virtual research center to better understand how aerosols affect the regional climate.
The facility will focus on advanced simulations to observe Himalayan snowmelt and glaciers, urban quality in Indian metros and regional hydroclimate. The facility will be known as VAYYU, a virtual research center for aerosol-meteorology interactions, Himalayan atmosphere-cryosphere interactions and urban air.
IIT Madras, represented by Shanti Pawan, Dean, Research, IIT Madras, Manu Santhanam, Dean, ICSR, and Chandan Sarangi, Department of Civil Engineering, signed an MoU with Finnish Met Institute represented by Petteri Taalas, Director General, FMI, and Hannele Karhonen, Research Professor, FMI.
