The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (Iist) and Keral Agricultural University (KAU) launched post-years studies on crop seeds that were sent to the International Space Station (ISS) on Axiom-4.
After the 18 -day mission, after an 18 -day mission, Captain Shaubhanshu Shukl and other astronauts returned, Iist seized the seeds towards July.
Using part of the seeds, the Biology Lab Iist Laboratory, which leads the project “Crops on ISS”, has launched a study of germination under laboratory conditions. However, most of the 4000 Plus seeds were transferred to Kau’s College of Agriculture in Vellayan for field studies, an initiative for cooperation between the two institutions. It is expected that the whole research project will last for two and a half to three years, said sources of Iist.
The seeds of the Jyothi varieties and the uma rice, the canachani (horse gram), the Vylayani Vijay (tomatoes), Thilakathara (Sesame) and Soorya (Brinjal/Empire) were sent to Axiom-4 missions that were raised on June 25 at SpaceX Falcon-9.
The payload of biology consisted of dry seeds, which was packed and exposed to microgravitational conditions on the ISS and returned to the ground. The “Crops on ISS” project was achieved through multi -level agreements between ISR and the European Space Agency, ISRO by human centers (HSFC) and Iist and Iist and Kau.
