IISc-based FSID will undertake 1,000 industrial projects and build a portfolio of 300 deep-tech startups by 2030

The Foundation for Science, Innovation and Development (FSID), the one-stop interface for deep science and deep technology capabilities of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), on Monday said it will undertake 1,000 industrial projects and build a portfolio of 300 deep technology startups by 2030.

Through an open, domain-agnostic approach to incubation and stronger industry partnerships, FSID would position itself as a leading platform connecting science, industry and business with an impact that goes beyond India, he said at an event organized here at the IISc campus.

FSID’s newly appointed CEO, Omprakash Subbarao, said at the event: “As the world of research, innovation and technology translation has rapidly evolved, so have the expectations of industry, government and other external stakeholders.”

“To enable FSID to respond to these changing demands with greater agility, professionalism and scale, we are strengthening its governance and leadership structure. For the first time, we have an industry leader as CEO to drive this transformation,” Mr Subbarao said.

With a vision of “Built on Science, Tailored for the World”, FSID was built on two strong pillars: innovation and incubation, he said. “Our ambition is to deepen collaboration with multinational corporations, Indian corporations and micro, small and medium enterprises, while creating stronger avenues for science and research that translate into real-world impact,” added Subbarao.

FSID unveiled a new governance model and this move marked a new phase in FSID’s journey to build a self-sustaining Section 8 society. To ensure a strong and effective linkage with IISc, Suryasarthy Bose would function as Professor-in-Charge and provide institutional oversight and serve as the main interface between FSID and IISc.
