Inspector General of Police (Railway) B. Raja Kumari reviewed the security of passengers at Vijayawada railway station and neighboring stations on Saturday.
She emphasized the need for better coordination between Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF) and officers of various wings of Indian Railways.
Mrs. Raja Kumari inspected the police station, waiting rooms, lounges, platforms, footbridges, running trains, restaurants, entry points, ticket and reservation counters and other areas of the station.
Deputy Inspector of Railway Police RG Jaya Surya and GRP Inspector JV Ramana informed her that 190 CCTV cameras have been installed at Vijayawada railway station and connected to the main servers.
“A team of officers will continuously monitor the CCTV cameras from various locations in the station and conduct battle police to prevent crimes,” Mr. Ramana said.
The IGP directed the Deputy Inspector General of Railway Police to keep a close watch on strangers and suspicious luggage on running trains, platforms and waiting areas at Kondapalli, Rayanapadu, Madhura Nagar, Gunadala and Ramavarappadu railway stations. She also interacted with passengers on platforms and asked about safety on trains.
“Intelligence, special branch and police personnel should travel on trains and move around stations to keep an eye on looters, diversionary gangs, pickpockets and robbers. Police should alert passengers of suspicious movements through public address systems,” she said.
She directed the police to remain vigilant and provide adequate security to devotees visiting Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam for Dasara festivities.
The IGP also inquired about the festival rush and the route map prepared to facilitate the movement of passengers during the Dasara celebrations.
