Iga Swiatlek said she was happy and happy to enjoy a dream at the French Open, although Aryna Sabalenka World No. 1 ended her 26-match won strip at Clay in the semifinals of women’s singles.
Sabalenka overwhelmed Swiatleka 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-0 at Philippe Chatrier to stop the defense of the title of the pole on Thursday. The Belarusian force proved too much for the champion of the champion who tried to become the first female player in the open era since 1968 to win four consecutive titles in Paris.
Swiatlek won the previous three editions, along with its first crown in 2020. The defeat was for a 24-year-old who hoped he claimed his first title in 2024 in what was an uneven year-one marked with a short doping ban.
“I like to play here, so I’m sure I’m happy that I was lucky to have played so many great tournaments. I even played better than weeks before,” Swiatlek told reporters.
“So I’m just happy to have to come back every year and try to push.”
French open 2025 semifinals
“The pace has been since its super fast,” Swiatus said.
“Especially at the beginning of the match she played as difficult and quite risky. So it was hard to get into any rally.
“And then I could do it, so more things happened, because it wasn’t just as a portion and one shot or a return and one shot, and I could build a little rally.
“But in the third set I feel that we returned to what happened in the first, and she took advantage of her chance, and I really didn’t hold what I was doing in the second set.”
In her previous two rounds, Swiato showed a lot of determinations to see 13. Elina Svitolina’s seed and 12.
“Now it’s probably not the best time to look at a wider perspective,” Swiatus said. “So it probably wasn’t a bad tournament, but apparently it’s not the result I wanted.”
“Frankly, it is incredible, but I understand that the work is not done yet. Today I am just enthusiastic about this victory and the atmosphere,” Sabalenka said.
“He’s the hardest opponent, especially on the dirt, especially in Roland Garros. It was a tough match, that it was a difficult match, but I managed.”
