World No. 2 Iga Swiatlek added another trophy to its impressive season by fighting back to capture Korea Open in Seoul, its third title of the year and moved it closer to winning WTA No. 1.
Before the finals, Swiato was in dominant form and swept around Barbora Krejkov 6-0, 6-3 in the quarterfinals and crushed Maya joint 6-0, 6-2 in the semifinals. But in the collision of the title, she was forced to dig deep. After dropping the introductory set of Ekaterina Alexander, she limited the second in a tense fracture and held the nerves in the referee to seal the dramatic 1-6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 victories in two and a half hours.

“Frankly, I don’t know how I won it because you just played great. I just tried to stay alive. Hopefully we’ll play more finals.
“I’m glad I could win here because of family history and my dad couldn’t win the Olympics, but at least I won this tournament, so hopefully she will come here next year to enjoy everything,” Swiatlek added.

Triumph indicates Swiatek 25. Career WTA Singles Crown. At the beginning of this year, she raised open titles Wimbledon and Cincinnati – two about her most important achievements of the season. With Seoul’s victory she earned 500 points rating, moved her sum to 8,433 and narrowed the gap to Aryna Sabalenka, which withdrew from the tournament to 2,792 points.
Strong performance at the upcoming China Open could further strengthen Swiatek’s persecution at the best place. Winning Beijing would score up to 1,500 points, which would potentially reduce the deficit to approximately 600 and maintain the battle at the end of the year No. 1.
