The two-day celebration of IEEE Day 2025 and IEEE North Karnataka Sub-Section Student Congress, SRUJANAM, facilitating multi-disciplinary technical workshops and interactive sessions on AI-based research, patent filing and robotic operating systems, began at Sharnbasva University in Kalaburagi, Karnataka on November 9.
More than 220 student delegates from various colleges and universities across North Karnataka are participating in the two-day programme.
The event was inaugurated by Devendra Gowda, IEEE Bengaluru Section Student Activities Committee Co-Chairman and IEEE North Karnataka Sub-Section Chairman Abhishek Deshmukh.
In his inaugural address, Devendra Gowda highlighted the benefits of IEEE membership for students in terms of access to internships, industry-linked projects and professional networking opportunities. “IEEE is entering its 50th year, with more than 21,700 new members already enrolled in Karnataka. We aim to cross the 25,000 mark by the end of this year,” he said while assuring IEEE’s continued support for improving technical and professional skills of students.
Abhishek Deshmukh said that the North Karnataka sub-section has successfully carried out several flagship events in its five years of existence. “SRUJANAM is a new initiative to provide a platform for students to network, collaborate and share knowledge,” he said.
Lakshmi Patil Maka, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology (Women) and IEEE Student Branch Advisor, outlined the various activities undertaken by IEEE Student Branches to enhance the technical competence of students.
Prof. VD Mytri, Principal, Sharnbasva University, in his presidential remarks urged every engineering student to become a member of IEEE and benefit from its training programmes, internships and project support. “IEEE is critical to fostering innovation and hands-on learning among students,” he added.
Asharani Patil, IEEE Coordinator, noted that IEEE Day is celebrated globally every October and the theme for 2025 is “Using Technology for a Better Tomorrow”. She said that as part of the event, there are various student competitions with cash prizes.
Shivleela Patil, Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering proposed the vote of thanks.
