Abhishek Sharma’s year-long reign as the world’s number one T20I batsman has come to an end after Indian teammate Ishan Kishan moved up a slim seven points in the latest ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings.The 27-year-old’s rise has been a result of his consistent form, particularly during this year’s ICC Men’s Under-20 World Cup. With his explosive bat, Ishan scored 317 runs at 146, including a Man of the Match award against Pakistan in Colombo. He also finished as India’s second highest run-scorer in the tournament behind Sanju Samson.After Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan has now joined the elite club of Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav to become only the fourth Indian batsman to reach the top spot in the ICC T20I Men’s Batting Rankings.

Both power-hitters will next be in action when India take on England in the five-match T20I series starting in Durham, with both expected to play a vital role for the visitors.Ishan made his T20I debut against England in Ahmedabad in 2021. He scored 1,341 runs in 47 innings at an average of 29.15 and a strike rate of 146.87. His record includes one century and 10 fifties, with a highest T20I score of 103.
