The International Criket Council (ICC) suspended US cricket membership with an immediate effect after a repeated breach of its obligations Member ICC on Tuesday 23 September.
The decision was made by the ICC Council after year -round review and extensive involvement of the parties. The cited violations include the inability to implement the structure of functional administration, lack of progress towards recognition as the National Managing Authority of the Olympic and Paralympic Committee of the United States (UsOPC), and the actions that ICC say caused reputation damage to cricket in the US and international level.

“The decision previously meeting the ICC during its meeting was based on the repeated and continued violation of its US obligations as a member of the ICC according to the ICC Constitution,” ICC said.
“These include, but are not limited to the inability to implement the structure of functional administration, lack of progress towards the status of the national management body in the Olympic and Paralympic Committees of the United States (UsopC) and significant measures that caused damage to cricket in the United States and worldwide,” he added.
National teams will continue to compete
While the American cricket has been suspended, ICC confirmed that the country’s national teams will continue to compete in the ICC events, including Preparations for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028. In order to protect players, the management and administration of national teams will be temporarily supervised by ICC and its representatives.
The US is expected to qualify for Olympic Games as hosts.

The ICC Standards Committee, supported by ICC management, now sets the steps needed to abolish the suspension of US cricket. These are specific reforms of administration, operation and organizational position, and the Committee is also entrusted with monitoring progress and providing instructions.
ICC emphasized its commitment to protect athletes and cricket ecosystem in the United States, while ensuring the future of the game on the global scene.
This step comes after the American cricket was placed “on the announcement” at the annual General Meeting of the ICC in 2024 for non -compliance with the membership criteria. Although he was warned again in 2025 and after the ICC Council in July, the body did not meet its obligations. ICC also reminded the US cricket that he was explicitly warned not to endanger the Olympic ambitions of cricket or engage in behavior that could deliver sport or ICC.
Suspension, ICC said, is a “unfortunate but necessary” measure to protect the long -term interests of the game.
