
ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year 2024 Announced: Jasprit Bumrah Joins Indian Colleagues in the Elite List
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced the Men’s Test Team of the Year for 2024, with a total of five players making up the illustrious lineup. Three of the world’s finest cricketers hailed from the same country – India, a testament to the country’s dominant performances in the Test arena this year.
Leading the Indian contingent was the ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who bagged a record 50 Test wickets at an astonishing average of 22.16 in the 12-match season. Bumrah’s ability to deceive batsmen with his unpredictable combination of pace and skill, not to mention his incredible endurance, made him a formidable opponent in every encounter.
Bumrah was joined by his fellow Indians, batting mainstay Cheteshwar Pujara and off-spinner R Ashwin. Pujara, who is widely regarded as one of the best batsmen in the world, had an outstanding season with 744 runs at an average of 53.14. His tireless work at the crease, combined with his exceptional temperament, allowed him to rack up valuable centuries in important matches.
Ashwin, a veteran spinner, played a vital role in India’s success with his uncanny ability to turn the ball on the cracked pitches of Asia and beyond. With 55 wickets in 11 Tests at an average of 32.81, Ashwin showcased his skill in different conditions and conditions, and was often the pick of India’s bowlers in crucial moments of matches.
Rounding out the team were Pakistan’s Imam-ul-Haq and Australia’s Usman Khawaja. Imam, an elegant opener, played some vital knocks for his side, with his 720 runs at 57.15 proving instrumental in their success. Khawaja, meanwhile, displayed his batting prowess in conditions, with his 754 runs at 74.40 leading his country’s top-order attack.
The other members of the Test Team of the Year include Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Chandimal and West Indies’ Kyle Mayers, both of whom made valuable contributions to their sides’ results in the longest format of the game.
"The selection of Jasprit Bumrah, Cheteshwar Pujara, and R Ashwin reflects their incredible achievements on the cricket pitch in 2024," said ICC’s chief selector, David White. "Each player brought something unique to the table, whether it be pace, endurance, batting grit, or the art of spin. Their names are now etched in history alongside some of the finest Test cricketers of all time."
