Jay Shah has been named in the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leaders list, recognizing his growing influence in global cricket administration. Shah’s inclusion is in recognition of his work at the International Cricket Council, where he has played a key role in expanding the sport’s global footprint.
Each year, the World Economic Forum compiles a list of influential leaders under 40, bringing together individuals who are shaping the future across industries, with this year’s cohort spanning nearly 55 countries.
“Meet the Class of 2026, exceptional leaders under the age of 40 who are redefining leadership in a changing world. This year’s cohort is making strides across industries and sectors and together represent nearly 55 countries,” the World Economic Forum said of this year’s cohort.
Jay Shah’s tenure has been marked by efforts to expand the game beyond traditional markets while overseeing the organization of a major global tournament cycle, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup in India, the biggest edition of the tournament in the competition’s history.
Over the past few years, the 37-year-old Shah has become one of the most powerful figures in cricket administration. Having played a key role in shaping policy and decision-making within Indian cricket, he has steadily expanded his footprint on the global stage.
JAY SHAH’S ENTRY IN WORLD CRICKET
Prior to his elevation to global leadership, Jay Shah served as the Honorary Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, a role in which he effectively functioned as the de facto head of the Indian Cricket Board.
During his tenure, Shah was at the center of several key decisions, from the upliftment of women’s domestic cricket in India to the booming sale of Indian Premier League media rights, which further strengthened India’s position in international cricket. Under his watch, the BCCI consolidated its financial and administrative dominance while continuing to conduct major tournaments and bilateral encounters.
Its growing influence domestically soon translated into a greater role globally. Shah became the chairman of the International Cricket Council, marking a major milestone in his administrative career.
The move underlined his rise from a key figure in Indian cricket to one of the most powerful voices in the global game, reflecting both his administrative influence and India’s continued dominance of world cricket governance.
