
President Droucadi Murmu said on Monday that she would try to learn Cannada when Minister Siddaramaiahah asks her if she understands her language.
At the celebrations of Diamond Jubilee ALL India Institute of Speech and Hearing (Aiish) in Memor, the Chief Minister who was dealing with the assembly in Cannada asked the President if he was familiar with the language.
The president later replied to her address and said, “Cannada may not be my mother tongue. But I respect all the languages spoken in our country, along with its rich culture and traditions. All languages, cultures and traditions must be preserved and maintained alive.”
She closed her speech and added, “I’m sure I learn Kannada tongue in a piece (Mein Kannada Bhasha Sikhungi Thoda),” who drew the applause of the audience.
