Former Indian cricket and current head coach Gautam Gambhir received the threat of death by e -mail, the subject of reading “ISIS” (Islamic State). E -mail contained only three cold words: “I kill you.”
After the threat, Gambhir filed a complaint at the police station Rajendra Nagar, which made the authorities to start the investigation. Although no formal case has been registered yet, the cyber cell actively works to monitor the origin of the e -mail and identify the sender.
The threat comes only two days after a terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam Jammu and Kashmir, who took the lives of 26 people. The attack was committed by members of the Resistance-Resistance Foremian Lashkar-E-Taba (years) terrorist group. In the past, Gambhir has openly expressed his opinion against terrorism. In 2021, the former cricket also received a similar threat from ISIS Kashmir.
On Tuesday, Gambhir also took X (formerly Twitter) to condemn the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam. In one of the deadliest incidents from the strike in Pulwam in 2019, terrorists started fire at tourists on the meadow Baisaran. “Praying for families of the deceased. Those who are responsible for it will pay. India will hit,” Gambhir said.
Gambhir has recently returned from a family holiday in France and is back in the country since the beginning of this month. In March, he remained largely out of the reflector after winning India Champions Trophy. With the Indian Premier League 2025, the National Team coaches usually get free during the tournament. Gambhir, who took over in July last year as the head coach of India, replaced the coach of the winning World Cup Rahul Dravid.
While Gambhir recently enjoyed a more positive run as a head coach with the Champions Trophy 2025 triumph, his early term of office was challenging. India lost the ODI series in Sri Lanka and suffered at home in the test series against New Zealand. The pressure was further mounted after the defeat of the 1-3 series in Australia, which saw that India gave her the trophy of Border-Gavascar Trophy after eight years.
