The US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz claimed that “full responsibility” for the misconception of a journalist to a group chat in which the best American officials discussed the threats of strokes in Yemen.
“I take full responsibility. I built a group; my task is to ensure that everything is coordinated,” Waltz told Fox News on Tuesday.
He said he did not personally know Jeffrey Goldberg, a journalist who was added to the chat.
“It’s embarrassing. We’ll get to the bottom,” Waltz quoted.
Waltz said he spoke earlier with Elon Musk during the day, CEO of Tesla Inc. and the billionaire Trump added and added, “We have the best technical mind how it happened.”
“We made a mistake. We’re moving forward,” Waltz said.
Waltz suggested that the escape was the result that Goldberg’s number under another name was accidentally saved. “Have you ever had someone contact that shows their name and then have someone else’s number?” said.
What exactly happened?
Questions were raised afterwards Atlantic The editor -in -chief Jeffrey Goldberg was added to the text group of the highest officials discussing plans for military strikes in Yemen.
The Trump team shared plans for the encrypted message signal for sending messages. It is a popular encrypted message to send messages used by journalists and government officials.
Goldberg told the incident in a story published on Monday. The text group, which also included Vice President JD Vance, Minister of Defense Pete HegSeth and others, discussed details of the attack plans for Iran supported by Houthi Rebel in Yemen.
Goldberg did not publish real plans in the article, but wrote that HegSeth shared “operational details of the upcoming strokes on Yemen” at one point, including information and weapons specifications.
Trump dredges Firestorm
US President Donald Trump downplayed Firestorm on Tuesday after the journalist was accidentally added to a group chat.
“There were no secret information,” Trump told reporters as he asked about the cottage and said that the signal of the commercial application uses “many people in the government”.
He said, “I don’t know anything about it. I’m not a big fans of the Atlantic. He added:” For me it’s a magazine that goes out of business. I think it’s not much magazine, but I don’t know anything about it. ”
The Atlantic replied to the “Ingraham angle” partly and said, “Attempts to disregard and discredit the Atlantic, our editor and our reports follow the obvious book elected officials and others who are hostile to journalists and the first additional rights of all Americans …”
Trump defends Waltz
According to Fox News, Trump defended Waltz and said that National Security Advisor would not be released beyond the incident, although some Democrats demand Waltz and Defense Minister Pete HegSeth to resign after an apparent violation of national security.
“He wasn’t released,” Trump Fox News said. The President said the incident was a “mistake”, although there was no “important” in the signal text fiber.
“I don’t think he should apologize,” the president said. “I think he does the maximum. It’s equipment and technologies that aren’t perfect,” he added.
