United States Vice President JD Vance has been condemned for saying he hoped his wife, second lady Usha Vance, would convert to Christianity. JD Vance spoke at the Turning Point USA event at the University of Mississippi, where he delivered remarks while addressing the crowd.
When asked about his wife’s religious background, JD Vance said that she grew up in a family that wasn’t particularly religious, and that the two had open conversations about how they planned to raise their children.
He added that although Usha often joins him in church, he hopes to one day see the Christian gospel like he does and convert to Christianity.
“Usha goes to church with me most Sundays. I hope she eventually feels the same way I did? Yes. I sincerely hope so. I believe in the Christian gospel and I hope my wife eventually sees it the same way,” Vance said.

He added that if she chose not to share his faith, it would not be a problem.
The vice president said, “If he doesn’t, then God says everyone has free will, so I don’t have a problem with that. That’s something you can sort out.”
While some people on social media praised JD Vance in the hope of converting Usha, some pointed out the “hypocrisy”.
One said: “I am praying for Usha. I am thankful that my husband converted a few months after I did. He is now a deacon. Being married with the same yoke is a blessing.”
“Absolutely nothing wrong with what he said, the problem is how the crowd would react if he said he was raising his kids anything Christian, say within Aisha’s religion,” said one user.
Another pointed out that Usha is a “devout Hindu”. “I never heard her say that before she was a devout Hindu. It was JD Vance who was an agnostic and she encouraged him to follow his faith again.! now he’s trying to convert his wife. That’s the problem with these Abrahamic religions.”
“Lol 😂 Usha Vance is Hindu, not agnostic, that’s not hard for you to watch. They even had a Vedic Hindu wedding and one of his kids is named Vivek. The biggest hypocrite of all is JD Vance and that’s why he won’t run if nominated in 2028.”
“In an interview shortly after the election, she said she goes to church as a family, but the kids know he’s Catholic and she’s Hindu and has no plans to convert. She also said that as their kids get older, they want them to choose their path as individuals,” said a third user.
