What led to the protests “I love Mohammad”?
His arrest came after a violent clash between demonstrators and the police after Friday’s prayers in Bareilla Uttar Pradesh.
“Tauqeer Raza has been taken into custody and further legal management is underway. The situation is peaceful and controlled,” Bareilly SSP Arya told the media.

The controversy dates back to September 9, when the police in Kanpur filed companies against 24 persons for alleged installation of “I Love Mohammad”, which he wrote on them during the procession of EID-E-Milad-unbi 4 September.
Some Hindu groups protested against it and called it “deviation from tradition” and “intentional provocation”.
“Members of the Muslim community installed these councils last week and built a tent on a public road, near the gate, where the RAM of Navami usually passes,” said the Police Commissioner (West) Dinesh Tripathi.
The controversy soon spread to several districts of Uttar Pradesh and to states like Uttarakhand and Karnataka, evoking protests and police interventions.
The series also attracted the attention of Chief Aimima Assaddin Owaisi, who claimed that “I love Mohammad” was not a crime.
What caused violence in Bareilly?
The announcement, which postponed the proposed demonstration to support the campaign “I love Mohammad” by Cleric Tauqeer Raz Khan, led to a collision between the big crowd and the police outside Ala Hazrat Dargah in Bareilly.
The police said that the large crowd bearing posters “I love Mohammad” gathered before the residence residence and near the mosque, both in the area of Kotwali, and after Friday prayers were a short distance from each other.

Raza issued a video statement

“DM and SSP arrived in their place as he was about to go to Friday’s prayers, called for more power and placed it under home arrest,” Raza said.

Raza also warned that attempts to suppress religious feelings would be reflected.
“The more the police try to suppress this problem, the more they get to the forefront. If they try to stop religious affairs, no one will be silent.”
