PRIYANSH ARYA from Pandjab Kings (PTI Photo) Mullanpur lit up on Tuesday when the 24-year-old opened the joint of the fourth fastest hundreds in IPL history and powered by Kings Pandjab to a major 18 victory over Chennai Super Kings. But more than fireworks, it was his attitude that pulled out the loudest applause – from anyone other than head coach Ricky Ponting.

Ponting, visibly moved to the hut of the team in the team dressing room, shower praise to Arya for the character he exposed. “I was around many cricket games. I didn’t see much better knocking than I saw this evening,” said former Australian captain. “You got the last game of the first ball, and yet the first ball will float 100 meters over a point for six today. It says a lot about you and the attitude we all want to have.”

Ponting continued: “No matter what happened last game, you held on your games. You showed the attitude to put it back to the pitch. You did it from the first ball. Incredible knocking.
Arya reached its first IPL one hundred with an attack on the jaw on Matheesha Pathiran-Zasáhl in three consecutive six and four. Although he fell in 13th place, when he tried to clean for a long time, his blitz had already turned the game.
SHASHANK SINGH (52* OFF 36) and Marco Jansen (34* of 19) added an unsurpassed 65-Runa stand to close the shifts. Ponting was also missing the opportunity to praise them.

“SHASHANK – smart, calculation. You answered it perfectly,” he said.
On Jansen, Ponting added: “Marco, very important runs. You even said we could get to 220-and we got 219! We were 80 for 5, back to the wall and looked what we did. That’s what good teams do.”
With the victory, Kings Pandjáb moved to No. 4 on the table and Arya proved that he was more than a rising star-it was the embodiment of the fearless team of first thinking.
