"I Hate The Name": Vineta Singh Ditches Agreement with Aman Gupta, Parting Ways with Founder of BoCycle
In a surprising turn of events, Vineta Singh, the creative and experienced founder of Women Fitness, has publicly expressed her disappointment and disgust with the name "BoCycle" – a company co-founded by Aman Gupta, one of the entrepreneurs featured on the popular TV show Shark Tank India. Singh, known for her progressive views on women’s empowerment and inclusivity, has taken to social media to vent her frustration, labeling the name as "misogynistic" and "toxic".
In her scathing tweets, Singh wrote, "I had initially been excited about the idea of collaborating with Aman Gupta to promote female empowerment and health. However, when I realized the name ‘BoCycle’ – a clear play on the word ‘bicycle’ – I felt my excitement quickly turn to outrage. Can you think of a more blatant example of male entitlement and ownership over women’s bodies? That’s what this name represents to me."
The controversy began when Singh first partnered with Gupta to develop a new range of fitness equipment specifically designed for women. However, during the course of their collaboration, Singh claims she began to feel uncomfortable with the name "BoCycle", which she believed objectified and trivialized women. Despite her attempts to address her concerns with Gupta, she was met with resistance and, ultimately, decided to part ways with the project.
Gupta has yet to respond to Singh’s allegations, but his association with the name "BoCycle" speaks for itself. Many have taken to social media to empathize with Singh’s sentiments, while others have come to the defence of Gupta, arguing that the name is simply a clever play on words and not intended to be offensive.
The move has sparked a heated online debate about the importance of inclusivity, representation, and the treatment of women in business. While some have questioned Singh’s decision to publicly air her grievances, many have commended her bravery in standing up for what she believes in.
As the controversy continues to unfurl, one thing is clear: the issue of women’s representation and empowerment in business remains a pressing concern. In the age of #MeToo and #TimesUp, the stakes are higher than ever for entrepreneurs to prioritize sensitivity, inclusivity, and respect for all individuals – regardless of gender. Vineta Singh’s stance on "BoCycle" serves as a powerful reminder that the fight for equality and respect is far from over, and requires constant vigilance from those in positions of power.
