The 77-year-old, the only surviving Mumbaikar from the 1975 team was convinced that it would be a favorable campaign.
“I feel we will win the World Cup next year. Our team is back to where it was when we won the 1975 World Championship. In all these years there was a time when we weren’t that good, maybe because of the introduction of astroturf in the game, it’s, it’s, it’s, it’s fit.
Also present on the occasion of the book “March of Glory: the story of the Indian Triumph of the 1975 World Championship”, co-author of Errol d’Aruz and Krumugam-former Indian Captain of Hockey and Olympian Viren Rasquinha.
“Kuala Lumpur refers to our lone World Cup title in 50 years. It’s also the first Indian World Cup across the whole sport. The cricket triumph has come eight years later; that’s why every Indian sport lover should appreciate Hockey’s Milestone Triumph,” Rasquinha said.
15th March this year meant 50 years of this victory. Onkar, who was involved in the campaign, said: “This team was excellent camaraderie. It was my debut tournament, I was a child child. At that time we had the best defense in the world. Pakistan was known for his world class.”
