I could have become Deputy CM: Premallatha Vijayakant

DMDK general secretary Premallatha Vijayakant on Sunday said her party was not seeking any “position”, contradicting the party’s “negotiations” for seats, “sofas” or positions.

Talking to reporters ahead of the party’s district secretaries’ meeting in Chennai, she said that DMDK remained “loyal” to DMK when it could easily tie up with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam after the polls.

“Even if we have only one seat, we are loyal to our alliance. Would it be so difficult for me to go and meet Vijay (Chief Minister)? Would my party members not go with me? Everyone is leaving to become a minister. If I had told him (Chief Minister), he would have offered me the post of deputy minister,” she claimed.

Ms. Premallatha said the DMDK stood with the AIADMK in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls when the alliance partners abandoned it. “However (AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami) called those who left him and gave them seats (in 2026). So many times we insisted that the leaders of the alliance appear together and participate in the protests together. But he did not. You all think that we left the alliance because of the district (MPRajya The Sabindre) We closed the AIADMK alliance with DMK just for the sake of it,” she said.

According to her, Mr. Palaniswami continued to insult the DMDK even as all other AIADMK leaders wanted the party in the alliance. “AIADMK is in ICU. What AIADMK did to DMDK in 2011-16, TVK AIADMK is doing now. Resignations (of legislators and leaders) will continue,” she added.
