Astronaut Butch Wilmore blamed himself for the technical defect of the Boeing Starliner capsule, who delayed his and Sunita Williams return from the International Space Station (ISS) on Earth for more than nine months and said he could ask further questions to potentially change the result.
“I start and direct my finger and blame me. I could ask a few questions and the answers to these questions could turn the tide. All the way up and down by a chain. We are all responsible. We all own it,” Butch Wilmore said.
On Monday, Wilmore and Williams approached their first press conference after returning from space in March. On Wednesday they are scheduled to meet with boeing officials to discuss flight problems.

Meanwhile, Williams said that Starliner has “a lot of abilities” and expects to succeed. Wilmore assured that all Boeing flight problems would be corrected.
“We’ll fix them. We’ll work,” he said.
In June 2024, Williams and Wilmore traveled to the ISS on the planned eight -day mission. But they had to stay back after the Boeing Starliner Capsule driving system problems. Two NASA astronauts were the first crew to fly Starliner Boeing during a test flight. The defective capsule returned to Earth in September 2024.
Experience in space
Wilmore also clarified nine months spent in space.
“Well, in some ways we were stuck. In some ways we may have been imprisoned, but in the large scheme of things we were not stuck because we were ready and trained,” Wilmore said.
Gratefulness to Donald Trump and Elon Musk
Both astronauts thanked US President Donald Trump and SpaceX founder Elon Musk for their efforts to bring back to the ground. The desire was brought back to the ground through the SpaceX Dragon capsules.
“Our situation has made many people, including the President and Elon, to look at what is happening at the International Space Station, take it very seriously and understand that our involvement of a country like a country like a space nation is really important around the world,” Williams said.
