West Bengal Assembly Election 2026 has produced a landmark result. The BJP secured 207 seats in the 294-member assembly. This gives the party a clear and decisive majority to rule alone.
The Trinamool Congress, which has been in power since 2011, has been reduced to just 80 seats. Outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee contested the results with alleged irregularities. However, political analysts widely see the BJP’s mandate as convincing and decisive.

Suvendu Adhikari is seen as the leading contender, with Dilip Ghosh also a major contender. Other names like Samik Bhattacharya and Agnimitra Paul have been mentioned but are considered less likely for the top post.
The BJP considers factors such as grassroots appeal, organizational strength, administrative experience and electoral strategy. They also consider a leader’s ability to consolidate power and coordinate with central leadership.
Suvendu Adhikari defeated Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur and won Nandigram, showcasing his electoral success. AI platforms highlight his human appeal, his role in the BJP’s Bengal expansion and his status as a symbol of change.
Artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Grok are largely predicting Suvenda Adhikari as a pioneer. ChatGPT assigned him a 55% probability while Dilip Ghosh got 40%.
Suvendu Adhikari’s victories, especially defeating Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur and winning in Nandigram, are considered pivotal. These victories demonstrate his political strength and ability to deliver results for the BJP in West Bengal.
Our previous report also noted the BJP’s history of selecting a less prominent leader or a first-time MLA as Chief Minister. Examples include Vishnu Deo Sai (Chhattisgarh), Mohan Yadav (Madhya Pradesh), Bhajan Lal Sharma (Rajasthan) and Rekha Gupta (Delhi).
I asked AI tools like ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Grok to predict who will become the next Chief Minister of West Bengal. “Discuss the contenders, pick a name and give good reasons,” I said. Check the answer.
Official representative of Suvendu
All three AI platforms see Suvenda Adhikari as a top contender. He defeated Mamata Banerjee in her own Bhabanipur constituency by a significant margin. He also won Nandigram for the third time in a row by a margin of 9,000 votes.
Grok notes its local appeal, particularly in rural Bengal and Purba Medinipur. Gemini emphasizes his role as the chief architect of the BJP’s expansion in Bengal.
ChatGPT describes him as the face of the anti-TMC movement in Bengal. In a landslide election, parties usually reward the commander who achieves victory. His insider knowledge of the TMC political machinery is considered invaluable. Delhi values operational control and Adhikari offers it in abundance.

However, ChatGPT introduced an important caveat in its assessment. His strong independent power base could concern the BJP high command. National parties are sometimes hesitant to elevate regional power players too quickly.
The BJP prefers leaders who are powerful but structurally dependent on the central leadership, says AI. ChatGPT puts Adhikari’s probability of becoming CM at 55%.
Dilip Ghosh
ChatGPT assigns Dilip Ghosa a 40% probability and calls him a “governance-era proxy”. Grok also acknowledges his strong political roots and basic organizational experience.
Unlike Adhikari, Ghosh is not a former TMC leader who has defected. It comes from the BJP organizational ecosystem itself. ChatGPT notes that this distinction is extremely important within the party’s internal culture.
It is the bearer of long organizational loyalty, strong staff acceptance and a simpler ideological message. Old-timers in the BJP view him with much less factional suspicion than Adhikari.

ChatGPT argues that after capturing Bengal, the BJP may no longer need a war general. Instead, the party may favor stability, ideological consolidation and smoother coordination with Delhi. ChatGPT notes that Dilip Ghosh fits more naturally into the template of post-victory governance.
Other contestants
Samik Bhattacharya, the current BJP state president, remains a recognized name. Grok describes him as a moderate and organizationally strong leader. However, ChatGPT notes that it still lacks mass appeal across the state.
Agnimitra Paul has visibility but insufficient organizational weight for the top post. Both platforms agree that the real decision lies between Suvendu and Dilip.
Final verdict
ChatGPT concludes that Suvendu Adhikari still has the edge for one key reason. The BJP may want to send a dramatic political message by changing the Bengal regime first. Adhikari symbolizes the rift from the Mamata era more starkly than Ghosh.
Grok and Gemini continue to support Adhikari as the frontrunner. The final decision will be formalized by the BJP legislative party meeting on May 8. The swearing-in ceremony is expected around May 9.
