HYDERABAD
The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) secured a 3,300-square-yard park at Gopal Nagar of Kukatpally mandal in Medchal-Malkajgiri district on Friday.
Spread over 92.21 acres in survey numbers 148 to 155, Gopal Nagar layout was developed in 1980 with over 1200 plots. At the time, developers had set aside land in three locations for parks. While two of these park sites have already been attacked, the third also faced a similar fate, prompting a representative of the Gopal Nagar Residents Welfare Association to lodge a complaint during HYDRAA’s Prajavani programme.
HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath looked into the complaint and ordered a field-level inquiry. After a joint inspection by HYDRAA, GHMC and revenue officials, it was confirmed that the land earmarked for the park is being encroached upon. Following the commissioner’s instructions, HYDRAA officials removed the shed that had been erected on the site, installed fencing around the property and put up signs designating it as a protected park area.
