The Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) cleared encroachments from government land in the Kulsumpura area in an operation on Friday.
HYDRAA officials in coordination with revenue authorities acquired 1.3 acres of government land encroached upon by one Ashok Singh. The attacker built sheds on the property and rented them out to idol makers for commercial use.
Following complaints from local residents through the Prajavani grievance platform, HYDRAA inspected the site and confirmed it as a government property. There were also requests from the District Collector of Hyderabad to remove encroachments as the government intended to use it for public purposes – especially for building two-room houses for the poor, given the scarcity of land in the area.
Authorities noted that despite two earlier clearances from the finance ministry, Ashok Singh reoccupied the site and continued to collect rent. He allegedly assaulted officials who tried to evict him. Citing police records, the HYDRAA statement said Ashok Singh was listed as a land grabber and troublemaker, with eight cases registered against him at Langer Houz, Mangalhat and Shahinayatgunj police stations.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of senior officials after detailed verification at the country level. The land was fenced off by HYDRAA the same day, the statement said.
