The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Thursday cleared encroachments at two places, protected a park in Gachibowli and restored a blocked road in Shamirpet — following complaints from residents.
In Gachibowli’s Telecom Nagar, a plan of over 32 acres was approved in 1982 by the then Hyderabad Urban Development Authority for BSNL employees. Of this, 4,000 square yards were set aside for parkland. Over the years, about 1,500 square yards have been encroached upon, houses have gone up, and attempts have also been made to convert the remaining 2,500 square yards into residential land as well.
After residents approached HYDRAA through the Prajavani grievance redressal platform, teams comprising HYDRAA, Revenue and GHMC officials conducted a field inspection on instructions from HYDRAA chief AV Ranganath, following which the land was confirmed as a parking area.
While existing residential structures were excluded, encroachments on the remaining 2,500 square yards were cleared on Thursday. Signs were installed designating the property as a park and the property was fenced off.
In another instance, HYDRAA cleared road encroachments in Friends Colony at Shamirpet in Medchal-Malkajgiri district. The layout of the colony, approved in 1987 with over 4.20 acres, includes a 20 feet wide road which has been disturbed by blocking access through the Shamirpet police station road.
Acting on a complaint, HYDRAA verified the encroachment on the ground and on Thursday removed the obstructions and restored access for residents.
