A personal security officer attached to the Commissionerate of Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) allegedly attempted to end his life using his service pistol at his headquarters in Hayathnagar on Sunday morning. Police believe that the possible motive is financial distress associated with losses in online betting and gaming applications.
The victim, identified as Mutyalapayti Krishna Chaitanya, 32, an armed reserve constable of the City Security Wing, belonging to the 2020 batch and working as the personal security officer of HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath, sustained a gunshot wound to the head at his house in Sai Surya Nagar, Munaganoor, around 6 p.m.
He was taken to Kamineni Hospital in LB Nagar. Doctors said he was brought in in a “comatose state”. A CT scan revealed extensive skull and brain fractures. Hospital authorities said he underwent emergency surgery and is currently in intensive neurocritical care. His condition remains serious.
Police said preliminary investigations indicate that Chaitanya was under financial stress due to debts allegedly incurred after suffering losses from betting and gaming apps. A case has been registered by the Hayathnagar police and further investigation is underway to find out the exact circumstances that led to the incident.
