HYDRAA clears encroachment on 12 acres of RK Puram Lake

The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Thursday removed encroachments spread over 12 acres of RK Puram lake, also known as Mukkidikunta, in Malkajgiri and fenced off the reclaimed area to prevent further occupation.

Spread over 75 acres in Moula Ali circle of Malkajgiri mandal in Medchal-Malkajgiri district, the lake is known as mini Tank Bund. While permanent structures grew on 11 acres, encroachments began to spread to an additional 12 acres within the Full Tank Level (FTL) limits.

The attackers built prefabricated compound walls and fences, effectively cutting up sections of the lake bed. According to complaints received by HYDRAA, some of the encroached land was being used to slaughter pigs while the waste was dumped into the lake.

Following complaints lodged by local residents in Prajavani, HYDRAA officials on Thursday inspected the site along with the concerned departments and removed the encroachments. The prefabricated walls were demolished and a fence was built around the reclaimed area. HYDRAA has also installed signboards that identify the land that falls within the lake’s FTL limits, the press release reported.
